La storia del nostro progetto comune comincia all'Istituto Italiano di Cultura nel 2007. Essendo mamma e in piu' con uno spiccato interesse per le lingue, cominciavo a preoccuparmi per il bilinguismo di mia figlia. Fu cosi' che decisi di esporre la mia idea per il Playgroup al direttore il quale mi mise in contatto con Francesca che ne aveva avuta una simile, scaturita dalle sue ricerche di PhD sul bilinguismo. Con poche risorse ma molto entusiasmo, siamo riuscite a radunare intorno a noi molti bambini e i loro genitori  in un ambiente che fornisce ai piccoli un'opportunita' unica di confronto con la lingua italiana in compagnia di altre famiglie. Per mia figlia ( ma sono convinta anche per altri bimbi) il Playgroup e' stato decisivo per l'affermazione dell'Italiano come seconda lingua.   Ha rappresentato un grande momento di realizzazione: realizzazione di non essere i soli a parlare una lingua diversa da quella del contesto in cui si vive, magari parlata da uno solo dei genitori.  Per questo speriamo di poter portar avanti questa iniziativa con la grinta di sempre. Il nostro primo anno si e' concluso con una inaspettata ma graditisssima sorpresa: il Playgroup ha vinto un premio come miglior progetto linguistico in ambito europeo, lo European Award for Languages (EAL).  Non possiamo che augurarci che gli anni futuri siano altrettanto ricchi di belle sorpese.

The story of our project started last August at the Italian Cultural Institute. Being a mother with a great interest in languages, I was naturally worried about my daughter's bilingualiam and so I decided to run past the director my idea for the Italian Playgroup. I then got in touch with Francesca whose research for her PHD in bilingual matters led her to a similar idea. With limited resourced but lots of enthusiasm, we managed to gather around us many kids and their parents in a unique opportunity to learn while having fun. For my daughter ( but I am sure also for other children) the Playgroup was decisive to help establishing Italian as her second language. It represented a great moment of realisation that other families were speaking a different language from the one spoken in the country. We hope we will be able to continue with this initiative. Our first year ended with an unexpected but most appreciated surprise; our Playgroup won the European Award for Languages. We wish more exciting surprises for the coming years.
